Chain Saw & Mower Safety

This class is centered around the safe operation of equipment often used in the day to day operations of county and city workers. One section focuses on chainsaw operations and will include but not be limited to discussion and demonstration of safety gear and selecting the right size chainsaw for the job. The instructor will demonstrate safe starting procedures as well as tree and limb sawing practices. There will be discussions on storage, gas and oil mix, bar oil usage and chain selection and sharpening. We anticipate having on hand brush-chipper equipment to demonstrate safe elimination of brush and limbs that are being cut.

The mowing portion of the program will be presented with an eye to roadside mowing safety including traffic control. There will be discussion on slope mowing to include both directional mowing and limitations. We will also cover tractor safety including hookup and all tractor/brush hog safety equipment that is available with standard equipment. Boom mowing practices and safety should also be covered.

These topics will be valuable to all employees in the safe performance of their mowing and chainsaw use in county and city work.
